How can Community Core help me?
Community Core is a set of lesson plans that help teachers, or mentors, bridge the gap between themselves and their students.
We were at dinner the other night with a group of friends when Join the Community came up in conversation. One guy happened to be a Physics teacher who just moved to the area. He was very intrigued as to what Join the Community was and how Community Core Lesson Plans help in the classroom.
Join the Community was created by a group of like-minded educators that see the value of Social and Emotional Learning in the classroom. How can it help? Community Core lesson plans come in over 50 different topics ranging from Leadership Skills, Self-Awareness and Healthy Relationships. Students have a lot going on in their lives outside of school. Whether it’s family, COVID, sports or navigating social media it can be stressful. Our Community Core tools are designed to help initiate some of those harder conversations.

How would this help?
It would help because by having the hard conversations, or maybe sharing a story about yourself when you were in their shoes helps the students to feel emotionally connected to you as a teacher. They already look at you as a mentor…” WOW, you are amazing at Physics”. But do they feel like they can come to you for help? There is always an excuse, not the right time of day, my mom has to pick me up early or simply, “I forgot”. IF a student is emotionally connected to you as a teacher they will gravitate to you for help, not only with Physics but maybe with something that has been bothering them outside of class.
Now here is the real question, “Why do I need a lesson plan to create this connection?”
